A webinar on research commercialization process was recently organized by the Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) and the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and General Studies (DE&GS), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The webinar which aimed at acquainting both students and the university community on the path to follow for a research idea or products to be moved from the gown to town where they are expected to solve real life situations.

The guest speaker and director DE&GS NOUN Prof. Juliet Inegbidion identified research commercialisation process starting from the beginning of the research work. According to her, waiting until the research work is concluded comes with a lot of difficulties in time and resources.

She identified research commercialisation as targeting to bring value to research activities from both social and economic perspectives

The university don also outlined the difference between an academic research and commercialisation of research as when moved from academic purposes to where and how it can be useful to the society and for economic development, brings in the commercialisation angle.

Prof. Juliet added that research commercialisation aims at problem solving, invention or product sales promotion

The webinar which is the first in the series of seminar to be organized by ACETEL and DE&GS of NOUN provides both the university community and students with a fresh insight on research commercialisation process.
