The African Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) have undergone a virtual accreditation exercise facilitated by a team from Germany, the Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programmes (AQAS).
The exercise which took place from Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th May, 2025, is a critical milestone for the Centre and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), as it validates the quality of academic programmes in ACETEL and NOUN and also strengthens the credibility and competitiveness of the programmes at the regional and international levels.
In compliance to the requirements needed, ACETEL has submitted the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and all supporting documents as requested by AQAS.
The accreditation team held virtual meetings with the NOUN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, to ascertain the university’s readiness for the accreditation.
The team had meetings with the ACETEL Director, Prof. Grace Jokthan, who gave them required information as it Concerns the Centre and also NOUN.
Prof. Grace Jokthan led the team through a virtual tour of the seven (7) ACETEL Laboratories, to include the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab, Cybersecurity Lab, Management Information Systems (MIS) Lab, Virtual Reality (VR) Lab, Basic Lab, Multimedia Lab and the Cisco Academy and all ACETEL offices.
A tour of the university main Library as well as ACETEL library was also taken and also the Directorate of Learning Content Management System (DLCMS).
The team held separate online meetings with ACETEL key stakeholders; Students and Graduates of ACETEL, Private Sector Partners, Facilitators affiliated with ACETEL.
The accreditation team also held meetings with ACETEL Program Coordinators and the Lab technicians.
The AQAS team held the virtual meetings strictly with only the individuals involved and no third parties attached.
The AQAS accreditation will give the university leverage on an international level as it will bring global recognition.
